Boren Scholars study less-commonly taught languages in world
regions critical to U.S. national security interests. Previous
language study is NOT required. In exchange for funding, Boren
Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least

Humanity in Action

The Humanity in Action Fellowship is for sophomores, juniors,
seniors, and recent graduates in all fields of study interested in
an intensive five weeks in Europe in a program focused on human
rights and minority issues. Also, there is the John Lewis Fellowship for
four weeks in Atlanta, Georgia. U.S. citizenship is NOT
required. Deadline
is January 7, 2016.
Udall Scholarship

The Udall Scholarship is for sophomores and juniors eligible
from a variety of fields who have demonstrated a commitment to
environmental issues through a combination of coursework, research,
internships, jobs, or extracurricular activities. Native American
or Alaskan native students are also eligible for fields related to
tribal health care or tribal policy. Pitt campus deadline is
February 1, 2016.
Amgen Scholars U.S.

The Amgen Scholars Program is an undergraduate summer research
program that offers the opportunity to engage in hands-on research
experience at some of the nation's leading education institutions. Deadline for most

DAAD RISE is a summer internship program in Germany for
undergraduate students in the fields of biology, chemistry,
physics, earth sciences, and engineering. No German language skills
are required. Deadline

Beinecke Scholarship

The Beinecke Scholarship provides juniors in the arts, humanities,
and social sciences with $4,000 immediately prior to graduate
school and additional $30,000 while attending graduate school.
Candidates must demonstrate financial need and exceptional academic
promise. U.S. citizenship is required. Pitt campus deadline is
January 4, 2016.
Fulbright U.S. Student
Program Information Session

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides research/study grants
or English teaching assistant grants for seniors, graduate
students, and alumni to promote mutual understanding among nations
through educational and cultural exchange. U.S. citizenship
required.
Applications for the next Fulbright cycle open at the end of March

Critical Language Scholarship provides
group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural
enrichment experiences for 7-10 weeks for U.S. citizen undergrads
and grad students. Deadline

financial need and members of minority groups historically
underrepresented in the Foreign Service are encouraged to

Foreign Affairs Fellowship provides
academic and professional preparation for outstanding students
interested in entering the U.S. Department of State Foreign
Service. Students with
financial need and members of minority groups historically
underrepresented in the Foreign Service are encouraged to

Payne (Donald M.)
International Development Fellowship Program
provides funding for graduate school, internships, and professional
development activities for students interested in careers in the
Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Huntington (Samuel) Public
Service Award provides a $10,000
stipend for graduating seniors to pursue one year of meaningful

Borg Memorial Scholarship is for women studying computer science, computer

Program provides education expenses for students pursuing
graduate degrees related to the Department of Defense, with
subsequent job placement in civilian laboratories upon graduation. Deadline is December 1,

NDSEG (National
Defense Science and Engineering Graduate) Fellowship provides three years of support to applicants who
will pursue a doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to an
area of DoD. Deadline
is December 18, 2015.
DOE Scholars
Program offers unique opportunities that introduce students
or post-graduates to the agency’s mission and operations. Deadline is December 15,
2015.

Ertegun (Mica
and Ahmet) Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities funds graduate studies in the humanities at Oxford
in a unique setting that fosters dialogue across academic
disciplines, cultures, and generations. Deadline is January 8, 2016 for
Philosophy and January 22, 2016 for all other subjects.
De Karman
(Josephine) Fellowship provides $14,000 for undergraduate
students entering their senior year. Fellowships are open to
students in any discipline, but special consideration will be given
to applicants in the humanities. Deadline is January 31, 2016.

Community-Based Research
Fellowship supports undergraduate
research-based service learning. The spring fellowship awards a
stipend of $800. Applications
are due on November 13, 2015.
UHC Scholarship Program provides
$2,000 in tuition support to juniors, seniors, or fifth-year
students with a 3.5 GPA, involvement with the UHC, and no previous
record of merit scholarships from Pitt's OAFA. Applications are due in
mid-January (see website for details).
