Boren Scholars study less-commonly taught languages in world
regions critical to U.S. national security interests. Previous
language study is NOT required. In exchange for funding, Boren
Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least
one year after undergraduate or graduate school. U.S. citizenship
is required. Pitt

Beinecke
Scholarship, Ertegun
Scholarship, and DeKarman
Fellowship Information Sessions- Wednesday,

The Beinecke Scholarship provides students in the arts,
humanities, and social sciences $4,000 immediately prior to
graduate school and additional $30,000 while attending graduate
school. Demonstration of financial need is required. Pitt
can nominate one candidate for this award. U.S. citizens
and U.S. nationals from American Samoa or the
Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible to
apply. Pitt
campus deadline is mid-December, 2016.
The Ertegun Scholarship funds graduate
studies in the humanities at Oxford in a unique setting that
fosters dialogue across academic disciplines, cultures, and
generations. U.S. citizenship is NOT required. Deadline is January 6,
2017 for philosophy and January 20, 2017 for all other subjects.
The Josephine DeKarman Fellowship provides $14,000
for undergraduates and $22,000 for graduate students in
any discipline whose scholastic achievements reflect high
standards. Special consideration will be given to applicants in
the humanities. Juniors and students in their fourth year of a
five-year undergraduate program are eligible to apply. U.S.
citizenship is NOT required. Deadline is January 31, 2017.
Fulbright
U.S. Student Program Information Session

Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for one
year of post-baccalaureate research, study, or English
teaching assistantship abroad. Attendance at an
information session is MANDATORY for all undergraduates or recent
alums who intend to apply for a Fulbright next season. U.S.
citizenship is required. Interested graduate students

UK
Awards Information Session

UK awards--the Marshall, Rhodes, Gates Cambridge, Mitchell,
and Churchill--fund
1-3 years of postbaccalaureate study in a variety of fields in
the United Kingdom. U.S. citizenship is required for all UK
awards except the Gates Cambridge.
DAAD Study/Research
Graduate Awards provide funding
for graduate study or research in all fields in Germany. Not all
fields require German language proficiency. U.S. citizenship
or permanent residency required. Deadline is October 31, 2016 for study
scholarships in Fine Art, Design, Film, Music, and
Performing Arts; deadline is November 4, 2016 for study
scholarships and research grants in all other fields. The
deadline for architecture has already passed.
American-Scandinavian
Foundation Fellowships & Grants Program
provides funding for outstanding American students,
scholars, professionals and artists for study and/or research in
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden. Fellowships of up to
$23,000 support an academic year-long stay, and priority is given
to students at the graduate level who need to spend time at
foreign academic or research institutions. Grants of up to $5,000
are also available for shorter research visits, both on the
graduate or post-doctoral level. Funding is available to
candidates in all fields. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
is required. Deadline
is November 1, 2016.
Critical Language
Scholarship Program provides funding for immersive
summer study in one of thirteen critical languages in a
host country. Depending on the language, programs are offered at
beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Students of
diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply. U.S.
citizenship is required. Deadline
is November 16, 2016.

Rotary Global Grants provide international
scholarships to fund graduate-level coursework, research, or
its equivalent for a term of one to four academic years. Contact your local Rotary
Club/District directly ASAP for details about the
application, deadline, and interview.
Soros (Paul and
Daisy) Fellowships for New Americans supports new
Americans, immigrants or the children of immigrants
through up to two years of graduate study in any
field in the United States. Each award is for up to $25,000
in stipend support (not to exceed $40,000), as well as 50 percent
of required tuition and fees, up to $20,000 per year, for two
years. Deadline
is November 1, 2016.
Pickering (Thomas R.) Foreign Affairs
Fellowship provides academic and professional
support for students interested a career in the U.S. Department
of State Foreign Service. Undergraduates receive up to $37,500
annually for their senior year and first year of a master’s
degree. Graduate students receive up $37,500 annually for a
two-year master’s degree. Applicants should plan to pursue
graduate studies in fields related to the Foreign Service, such
as business administration, economics, public policy, and
international affairs. Women, members of minority groups
historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and
students with financial need are encouraged to apply. U.S.
citizenship is required. Deadline
is January 15, 2017.
